GENERAL RULES
Flowers should be kept in a cool environment
(below 75 deg. F). NEVER put a flower container on a TV, radiator or
other heat source. Keep flowers away from drafts or bright light. These cause drying, fading and premature opening.
Add water DAILY.
* Fresh Cut flowers... Remove any leaves which might end up underwater. Leaves decay and shorten vase life. Cut
stems at least 1/4 inch. Place cut flowers in warm (100 deg. F) water as quickly as possible. Use a quality floral food
like Chrysal. In an emergency, substitute an ounce of lemon juice and a tablespoon of sugar. DO NOT USE
ASPIRIN!
For longest life, clean the vase every couple of days, refill the vase with water and flower food and recut the stems.
A light misting with cool water is also beneficial.
* Fresh Cut Roses... Roses are VERY FRAGILE and should not be kept out of water for more than an hour; EVEN IN THE
REFRIGERATOR! If you can't get your roses into water within an hour, ask for water tubes. This small investment
helps keep your roses fresh for 3 or more hours at room temperature or overnight in the refrigerator.
IMPORTANT! !!! Remove any leaves which might end up underwater. Leaves decay and shorten vase life. Recut
each stem at least 1/4 inch. Air oxidizes the stems shut (like a straw gets clogged) within 10 SECONDS. Place roses
in warm (100 deg. F) water. Use a good floral preservative like Floralife or Chrysal. In an emergency, substitute an
ounce of lemon juice and a tablespoon of sugar. DO NOT USE ASPIRIN!
FOR LONGEST LIFE, clean the vase EVERY DAY, refill the vase with water and flower food and recut the stems.
A light misting with cool water is also beneficial.
IF A ROSE HEAD DROOPS, THIS MEANS THAT WATER IS NOT GETTING UP THE STEM. This usually
happens when the rose was kept out of water too long, or not re-cut properly. Recut the stem at least one inch. Do this
IMMEDIATELY.
HOW LONG SHOULD FLOWERS LAST?
Vase life depends on many factors. For example, if the florist buys from a wholesaler, she may THINK her flowers are
fresh, but they may have been sitting in the wholesaler’s showroom for up to a week or more! That’s why the FLOWER
HUT buys it’s flowers DIRECT FROM THE GROWERS! Another factor is treatment by the florist -- some florists
don’t even put flower food in their water!. The FLOWER HUT uses a five different treatment programs to assure
optimum life for each major floral type.
In addition, CUSTOMER CARE HAS A HUGE IMPACT ON FLOWER LIFE.
The Floral Review, a professional floral publication, provides the following vase life guidelines:
*Carnations....5-7 days w/o STS and 10-14 days w/STS (The Flower Hut way!)
*Daisies....3-8 days
*Mums....7-14 days
*Orchid....4-10 days
*Roses....3-7 days
